Yes, I am the idiot that came up with the idea for this blog. So here is the backstory.
I am in a meeting with a dozen or so executive pastors of large, fast-growth churches. I ask questions like what do they need to make their life easier?
One of them said, "I always learn stuff from talking to our younger staff, especially those in our tech department. I wish I had a guy that all he did was go out and find the technologies that:
1. We could easily use here. I have lots of tech guys and a lot of the stuff they come up with takes lots of money to maintain. I want stuff that makes our lives easier, not harder.
2. Are out there in the future but not quite ready for primetime. What do I need to keep my eye on that might have an impact on us 3 years from now.
3. What is going on out in the tech world that our everyday attenders are engaging. Some of those are helpful, some are hurtful, but I want to know what the implications are for our church.
I liked the idea but I felt one person couldnt do all that. So that led to the idea of working with a team of bloggers that will throw lots of stuff at the wall. And we want you, through your comments to help as well.
Some ideas will stick. Some will be crazy.
Some of it will be very practical and some of it will be "out there".
I hope the team will come up with simple things and complex things.
I hope they will challenge your thinking and help you find solutions to real problems.
I happen to believe that the church has always been a fairly aggressive adopter of new technologies. Usually faster than other not for profits and faster than small businesses.
Of course I think the point is not to have churches on the cutting edge of technologies, but rather to help equip churches and their attenders to be better followers of Christ. Sometimes, that will involve technology.
