I am curious about #5, TMI. Why would you not want to have a Church member's home number and address listed on the website?

I've been thinking about posting our church directory online for easier access, in case one's printed copy gets lost.

They may not want you to publicize their information.
If you want to enable your church directory online, take a look at AccessACS, for one, or whatever your church management software supports for online access.

The Church Directory is "online" yet "private" inasmuch as members are the only ones who should be able to see what's in it. A password-protected environment allows people to see only what you want them to see -- such as keeping people visible only within a Sunday School group, for instance. Or, a deacon or pastor for only within that person's jurisdiction. There are ways to do what you want, that keep all the parties reasonably happy. Besides, the better ones allow your users to help you update their own information, which you might retrieve back into your database.

Hi

Great thoughts. We've produced a self-assessment tool for church sites at InternetEvangelismDay.com/design which provides a 15-page report. Ideas for improving it gratefully received.

Blessings

We are re-doing our website right now. Very timely.
