I can't find ANYONE doing this online. Am I the first to think of it?
Our new church web page has a widget from LibraryThing that shows the books that our staff love. (See www.pacificchurch.com) We can include an Amazon Associates ID for the widget, so anyone who clicks through and purchases a book will create a small profit for the Associate.
I'd like to have the proceeds go directly to a charity we support: www.acresoflove.org. They are willing to get an Associates ID for us to add to our widget. We wouldn't have to worry about the checks and sending them on, and we would be encouraging others to support the organization.
Is there some downside I'm not seeing? The church won't get the tax writeoff, but I suspect we can live with that.

Adrienne, that is a great idea!! For churches that don't have an on-site bookstore (or even if they do), it's very much a great supplement to a church's ministry to recommend books, and a widget like that looks very useful! Thanks for sharing it!

No, I don't know of any other churches right off hand that uses the LibraryThing widget on their church website; I do know of churches that list book recommendations and use their own Amazon Associates ID.

I did find this, another way to use LibraryThing -- Mars Hill Church in Seattle has a group that lists the books they read, at
