Map of Social Networking Sites
Here's an interesting map that shows which social networking sites are dominant in which countries
3 observations:
- Brazilians and Indians love Orkut ; Hi5 is big in Central America, Asians prefer Friendster and Cyworld, and Europe's a mixed bag w/ Bebo dominating the UK
- Myspace and Facebook are the most popular in US and Canada, but not in too many countries outside of North America
- If you're doing ministry in a different country from your home church, they're probably not on the same social network as you.
3 speculations:
- There will never be one social graph to
ruleunite the world, let alone a single country (see speculation #2) - A person's social network will continue to get scattered and fragmented across multiple websites. US teens already have profiles on at least 3 different networks - Internet users in other countries will also have multiple social networking profiles.
- The landscape will change. This map will look very different 5 years from now.
