Even though I'm considered a techie by many, I have to confess that I never got it with the Slingbox. I took a closer look at their website and watched a couple of short video intros and I had an a-ha. Slingbox lets you watch a TV feed at home (or one specific location) from somewhere else over the Internet. Think of it like running an extra-long virtual coax cable from home to another room far far away.
LifeChurch.tv has figured out another way to use a Slingbox -- to connect their central campus with all the other campus locations in what they call a Global Operation Center (GOC). Sunny Thomas' blog gives an inside look at how this GOC helps the central campus support the other campuses in real-time (Sunny is the Technical Director at LifeChurch.tv)
Utilizing the GOC allows us to save on travel costs. It also allows us to better support our campus teams. Our leaders are able to provide our campus pastors with immediate feedback as soon as the service (we call them experiences) ends.
How are you using technology to connect with multiple campuses or churches, beyond the conference calls and webinars?
