If you read Digital on a regular basis you already know about LifeShare - a 7 day initiative designed to invite followers of Christ to extend themselves beyond the usual daily business we have online. The invitation is for us to share (in a variety of ways) our love of God with our larger sphere of influence online.
I often encounter Christian leaders who really can't see the value of online connections. These relationships are often perceived as a insignificant or "not real" and time online thought of as a purposeless, even squandered. But even though we have certainly all spent time on the internet that could have been used more effectively, there are still incredible connections being made, friendships deepening, individuals turning into groups and groups becoming movements, all born out of electronic connection.
Furthermore, the internet is, well basically, the largest single mission field you and I will ever have access to.
So we should never underestimate the value of our communication. The Lord spoke and the world was created. Jesus is the Word made flesh. And the Holy Spirit uses people just like you and me as His voice, speaking light into darkness, mercy into despair, and hope into our broken world.
Whether we use our Facebook or MySpace to extend an encouragement to a friend, whether we use Twitter to speak God's truths or share prayer requesta, whether we participate in funding an adoption online, or a water well, or whatever, let's celebrate the way our words (and actions) can rescue others.
So you're invited to LifeShare and feel free to invite others. If you want to join us for our next online gathering simply check the schedule. In fact, by the time you read this, we're probably meeting again. Come early, check into the online campus lobby early, greet your friends and then let's use our time together as a reminder.... we can share with purpose.
